Ruby Mountains

We spent Monday in Winnemucca because I had to get the Van checked and we did not want to make the drive to Elko in the late afternoon after the long drive following the Virgin Valley side trip.

We drove the next morning to Elko, Nevada and up the Lamoille canyon to roads end. We hiked an easy hike of around 4 miles round trip to Island Lake.

Looking up to where we hiked. You can see a natural circque basin which holds mostly frozen over Island Lake. I took some nice video, but no pictures of the lake.




After the hike, we drove some country roads and saw 5 bulls battling it out. We then drove to Windover on the border of Utah and Nevada and checked into the KOA Kozy Kabins. We had a good buffet meal in one of the casino's. The kids liked straddling the border line and I noticed that two casinos were build right up to the line.
